Stevenage Orthotics

70% of people think that foot pain is normal.

Your feet are the foundation of your entire body. They do an incredible amount of work each day. The smallest imbalance can cause a great deal of discomfort but properly fitted prescription orthotics, help restore the normal balance and alignment of your body and bring relief from fatigue and pain. Orthotics are so comfortable and help your feet work so naturally that you will want to wear them as much as possible.

How Can We Help?

What Is A Custom Orthotic?

A custom orthotic is a device designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They look like insoles but are biomechanical medical appliances, that are custom made to, correct your specific foot imbalance.

Who Needs Custom Orthotics?

The symptoms of poor foot mechanics can include any one of the following: Localised foot pain, bunions, hammer toes, arch/heel pain, leg/knee pain hip or back pain - even neck pain.

What Can I Do?

Your health care practitioner can prescribe custom orthotics to help correct your specific foot and body imbalance. You can help your health care practitioner by discussing any nagging foot, leg, or back problems and even by simply asking if your feet could be part of the problem.

About Mark

I originally got involved with orthotics because of my biomechanical background; some of the many issues I was treating originated in the feet.

The beauty of using TOG, is that they have a wide range of orthotics suited to different activity types, including a very lightweight version which I have used in my involvement with the Hitchin Town Football Club.

What Happens On Your First Visit?

On your first visit you can expect to undergo a basic physical examination and an orthopaedic assessment of the foot. This is a digital scan of the feet, the first being a static scan followed by a dynamic scan of how the foot is currently moving. We can then compare the scan to an optimal sample to show what deficiencies exist in the gait process. Once this is established a decision on whether prescription or off-the-shelf orthotics would be best indicated.

Foot Orthotics are used to help the feet restore optimal timing and pressure patterns which aid in the treatment of biomechanical abnormalities.

TOG Gaitscan

TOG Gaitscan is the most technologically advanced gait analysis system available today. It comprises a plate covered with thousands of tiny sensors that accurately measure the distribution of pressure through the sole of the foot, both standing (static) and walking (dynamic).

The information from these sensors is then processed through specialised computer software to provide a 2D or 3D visual representation of the pressures under the feet and a detailed analysis report. This aids your chiropractor in evaluating your foot function and determining your need for orthotic therapy.

The TOG GaitScan™ is an innovative diagnostic tool and digital casting device that allows practitioners to analyze patient biomechanics and order custom orthotic products.

What Happens After The Scan?

Should orthotics be indicated for you, the wealth of information from the gait scan and the chiropractor's evaluation of your foot mechanics are combined to produce an individual prescription which is used by the Orthotic Group laboratories to manufacture your custom foot orthotics.

The orthotics are generally made of flexible, moulded thermoplastic (typically 2-3mm at their thinnest point) and fit comfortably in the shoes. There is a wide range available, from those for everyday use to specialist orthotics for sports enthusiasts or professional athletes.

A new, in-depth method of assessing your gait cycle with a dynamic scan gives your health care provider access to a wealth of information that cannot be obtained with the naked eye.
